Chook Me!

If I have different roosts in different parts of the coop, will the roosters roost with his hens?

I want to have multiple roosters with all my many hens, but if i have different open coops with in the large run, will the roosters keep their own hens with them?

  1. Chickens have a pecking order they establish every year and they decide which hens/roosters they will socialize with. The dominate rooster will ussually keep the other roosters away from all the hens as long as they are all running together.Even hens establish this pecking order and often the *losing* hens will wander around by themselves most of the day,and even roost alone. The only way to ensure that the rooster you want stays with the hens you want him to,is to keep them in seperate pens accordingly, and still they may not roost close together,if they have other options. They will roost apart from the ones who pick on them.
