Chook Me!

Would raising baby chicks (or any kind of small bird) be considered an SAE project?

I am trying to decide what I can do for my SAE project for FFA. I would like to do something involving animals. I need websites, tips or anything that would help me out. Is there anywhere that I can adopt baby chicks? If not what is a good hatchery to get them from? They need to be able to be shipped. What would be a good breed to get? Why? Any thing will help me out. I need answers ASAP though. Thanks!

  1. My little sister hatched and raised quail one year, and chicks one year for her ag project for FFA. She bought the eggs locally.
  2. You sure can, but you have to be the one to take care of them and nobody else. (I'm also in FFA + love chickens) Websites: http://www.mypetchicken.com/?gclid=CIyf1vLF9aoCFckaQgodk0yXLw http://www.backyardchickens.com/ Good Breed? I LOVE brahma chickens very much, but Barred Rocks are the best for show, if you plan to show any of your birds. Sumetra chickens are very cool chickens, they are my all time favorite you might also like the phoenix kind. Good Place to buy your chickens? Ideal Poultry, MyPetChicken, Murray Hatchery ... those have been reliable for me. Have so much Fun!! ~Whittni
