Was it Toby Keith that told the Dixie Chicks to shut up and sing?
I am 13 years old and I love the Dixie Chicks! This isn't my account though it's my brother's! But I really would like to know exactly who it was that told them that I have been wondering for a little while but I figured that there has to be someone out there who knows haha!(: So anyone?
Public Comments
- No. It was shouted at them by a fan. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shut_up_and_sing/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixie_Chicks:_Shut_Up_and_Sing
- I love the Dixie Chicks too. It wasn't him that told them to shut up and sing ... it was a random hateful non-fan. But it was Toby Keith that publicly scorned them for the controversial words that Natalie Maines said on stage. In my opinion, he had no right to say anything. I haven't listened to his music since. If he comes on the radio, I change the station. "Keith responded by belittling Maines' songwriting skills, and by displaying a backdrop at his concerts showing a doctored photo of Maines with Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein."
- Hey serene maybe you should take the time to learn the WHOLE story, but what would one expect from a Dixie Chicks fan. That feud went both ways, UNTIL HE ENDED IT(so it's Natalie Maines you shouldn't be listening to). SHE started it by saying that ANYONE could have written his song Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue. I don't recall him ever claiming that it was some amazingly written song, but it was written for the military and released at their request. So he made a comment along the lines of he could count the songs she's written on one hand(if you are going to insult someone's song writing ability when they ARE a song writer you look like a fool when you never write music). SHE was also the one that insulted Country music fans. Anyway it was someone who sent them a letter that told her she should just shut up and sing. Well at least they claim that was one of the letters, with her big mouth you can never be sure.
- I don't think so. I do know she picked a real bad time, to rip on George Bush. Never attack any president, after a nation comes under assault. But yeah Toby Kieth did fight back. Of course who started the feud between them is up in the air. Toby released "Courtesy of the red, white, and blue" about the same time, and the Chicks attacked him for that. So he attacked the chicks for stage smack talk, and the chicks attacked him for writing a song about going to war with Bin Laten(R.I.H. Ripped In Hell). Either way I don't really care, that was a long ass fucking time ago.
- They started the mouthing first and they mouthed the wrong person as Toby will always mouth back. They did the same thing to Reba. They started it,Toby finished it as he is still pumping hits out to this day while they do nothing. As far as the shut up and sing thing, that slogan was on a magazine cover at the time with a picture of the chicks. It just kind of stuck I think.
