Why do Republicans think Hank Williams is innocent, but wanted the Dixie Chicks fired and arrested?

Right Wingers are constantly defending Hank Williams jr. but they were the same people wanting the Dixie Chicks fired and arrested for speaking out on Bush. Hypocrisy?

8. Say what? I don't know of one person who wanted the Dixie Chicks arrested. I fully support their right to say whatever they wish. The fact that they torpedoed our President while in a foreign country speaks to their lack of forethought and class. They paid for it in plummeting record sales. Mr. Williams paid for his with his terminated contract from ESPN. Show me a link that says Reps wanted the Dixie Chicks arrested. Otherwise, you're just another liberal blowing smoke.

11. Because Hank Williams Jr. was critical of the "enemy" - democrats. While the Dixie Chicks were treasonous for criticizing the American president during a time of war (not because he was a republican - it's war, dammit). So to conclude: criticizing a republican president is treason, while criticizing a democrat president is the height of patriotism. Hope that helps you.
12. The public just stopped buying Dixie Chicks stuff. The public has that right. Its not like they were jailed.

23. Dixie Chicks did not get fired from anything. The opened their mouth countless times in front of people who where Bush supporters and in turn fell off the face of the earth because people stopped buying their stuff (which I enjoyed by the way) Hank will probably make a profit of this
24. Dixie Chicks.... Arrested for what? I did not see such calls for action. Fired from what? People just simply stopped buying their albums and going to their concerts. Hank Williams Jr. can say what he wants, and ESPN can fire him if that is what they want. Hank will be ok regardless. People will still buy his music (probably more than ever). As to my mind....both indicated their politics (which was not a great surprise to most people as to where they stood)....I choose to not buy Dixie Chick's music, and to buy Hank's music.

26. Republicans do not have a long enough attention span to remember something from that long ago and even if they did, republicans are not intelligent enough to comprehend such subtleties as self-contradiction.
27. Hank has to answer to ESPN, not me. He said something pretty stupid, that others have said about Bush. He simply said Boenner and Obama are enemies like Hitler and Israel. The Dixie Chicks said they are embarrassed to be Americans....they have to answer to their fans....not ESPN. They can't get fired. Listen, both have the freedom of speech, and both have to answer to only one person, their fans. So Hank lost the ESPN gig, I'm pretty sure he's not going to go hungry, and his fan base won't blink an eye about it. Hank's fan base probably cheered about that, and he probably got lucky that the bizzare crap he said sin't too far out of line from his fans view point (since I think he was blasted drunk). The Dixie Chicks said something a lot of their fan base didn't like, and they have to think about that the next time they say something like that. their fan base nose dived after that, and they still havent recovered from what they said. 28. The only thing that happened to Williams is that ESPN chose to yank his opening theme song... That hardly is being fired. As far as the Dixie Chicks are concerned, I don't remember any call for them being arrested. There was a grassroots boycott of their songs which amounts to the same thing as happened to Williams. It seems totally consistent to me.
29. Are you serious? He didn't compare Obama to Hitler. He was saying that Obama and Boehner chumming around together is like Hitler and Netanyahu chumming around together. He was pointing out how extremely different they are. The Dixie Chicks were personally attacking President Bush.
