Can I make Beer Can chicken in the oven, and if so, how?
I just saw this on a TV show here in Germany, and it looked good!

- I tried it, but I didn't think it was that great. The chicken was really moist, though,
- Assuming your oven is high enough for the chic and beer can. Take out oven racks and put 1 on the bottom with a cookie sheet under it. Rub your spices all over it and under some of the skin where you can. I make slits in the thick parts of meat and push a peeled garlic clove into the slits. Happy baking. Use 250 or 275 degrees slow cooking careful not to burn the skin before chick is cooked. Sounds great
- stick a can of beer or soda (like dr. pepper, or root beer) up the chicken, in a pan. at wal-mart they have a holder that is made for it, it holds it all up right. cook as normal. (i prefer a good root beer glaze than the up the butt way....
- I've made beer can chicken and it definitely can be made in an oven. I move the rack down to the lowest level; take 1/2 the beer from the can, add in some fresh herbs and then I lightly season the chicken and impale it on the can. Then I put them on a baking plate (to catch the juices) and roast at 350degrees for about 45 minutes, then I baste with the juices and continue cooking for another 20-25 minutes. I think this works best with pilsners & light lagers rather than hocks or ales though.
- place in deep roast pan bottom so juices don't drip in oven!can you get a 16 oz. can of beer there .might have to improvise.
- Steven Richlen in his "How to Grill" cook his over coals using the indirect method of grilling.... But I suppose you can do this in your oven too. You can use a commercial rub or make your own.... trim the excess fat from the bird and rub it down. Open and drink half a can of 12 oz. beer, punch another 3 holes on the top of the can with a church key, put some of your rub into the can and slip your seasoned bird over the top of the can = do not use an unopened can of beer it will explode! Bake for about 1.5 hours. Remove with tongs.... be careful 'cause you'll still have liquid in the can and it'll be hot. Let the bird on the can sit for for some 5 minutes before taking the bird off the can,
