Chook Me!

Can I cook a beer can chicken on the grill with a bottle of beer instead? Or could I use a glass mason jar?

  1. noooo!, the glass may shatter
  2. No you cannot the glass will shatter in the heat and time it takes to fully cook the chicken... use a can of beer, it will not explode.
  3. mmmmmmm beer can chicken ... my mom makes this all the time she gets a 16oz beer can not bottle and pours about half of it out and cooks it right on the can of beer !
  4. no the glass with shatter
  5. This is not recommended! Do not use glass! The glass can (and probably will) shatter or at least break. Beer can chicken is wonderful. Go buy a can and drink the beer from your bottles! There is also a "beer can roaster" that you can buy. I actually got one of these for Christmas one year. It works great.
  6. HELL and to the no!!! the glass will invariably shatter my angel!
  7. Please no! You don't want to risk serving shattered glass chicken. If you only have bottled beer, use a different clean can to hold the beer. A variation would be to set the chicken in a foil pan on the grill, and add the beer to the pan. Check once in a while to make sure there is still beer in the pan. What time should we come over?
  8. You can not use a bottle, it won't work. You can use a can of soda instead of beer. I wouldn't recommend putting glass on top of your grill, especially not in a situation in which hot gas will be building up in there. You can usually buy at the grocery store or somewhere else a beer can chicken stand, which holds the can and the chicken so they don't tip over. To me, this is essential because our beer can chicken would often tip over before we bought that, and then the beer or soda would spill all over the chicken and the coals or whatever you have in your grill. Remember to pour half the beer or cola out before putting the chicken on it, and of course, take the gizzards out.
  9. NO!!! ( I was silly enough to try this, you end up with a grill full of glass and a chicken full of glass!) Very messy, very hard to clean up and veryy very dangerous!!
  10. sorry you have to use the beer can. the heat will cause the glass to break and then you will have wasted your chicken. you might be able to use a big soup can (like the family size tomato soup cans) if it's size your going for. lol
  11. Only if it's Pyrex glass. Pyrex glass is made especially so that it can heat and cool. Regular glass will just shatter, and may shatter explosively in the chicken if the conditions are right. You can just use any can though, doesn't have to be a beer can, so long as it'll fit in the chicken. Plus then you can just rinse and recycle, no washing needed.
