has anyone tryed beer can chicken?

a friend is trying it now but i have never heard of it?

  3. I have tried it, it is where a chicken is roasted with a partial can of beer in its cavity. I it is good and juicy.

  5. Yes, I make it all the time, it's very yummy... the chicken is really moist. I season the skin with various spices, and I also season the beer with things like garlic cloves, salt, etc. Just remember to put something under the chicken to catch the grease or you'll have lots of flare ups, and your chicken will burn, I learned the hard way.(he-he)
  6. I have cooked several of them. Best kind of beer to use in beer can, or drunken, chicken is a darker lager. I like to use Shiner. The only problem with cooking a drunken chicken is running out of beer before you start to cook =)

  8. Absolutely ...... but pour out at least half the beer (drink it if you like - I don't) before putting your chicken on the can. The beer (or even other liquids in the can) only helps keep the chicen moist while it is cooking ... but know that a standing chicken (which I cook with a vertical stand) is so much moister than one cooked laying down. Try a roaster in the oven standing up - or a smaller one on the grill ... you won't believe the difference if you have never tried it. Tis WONDERFUL!!
  9. it's a lot to do about nothing just like frying a damned turkey. you can put a can of water up the chicken's butt and get the same result. it is just to introduce moisture into the meat. i can't taste any difference the beer makes,but hell if ya got an extra beer go for it.

  11. I cook it all the time. However, due to some of the chemicals they put in the paint on the can, I do not recommend just shoving the can in. Put it in another container first. I use a small mason jar. You can also place other spices in with the beer to give it even more flavor.
  12. It is the best way to roast a chicken! I do mine on my Weber grill, with the middle burner turned off (indirect heat). Drink half the beer, put the same herbs in the beer that you put on the outside of the chicken. I also usually remove the top of the beer can (makes it easier to put the seasonings in).

  15. My uncle calls it drunken chicken. I've had it several times with different types of beer, and I've never had a bad helping of it.
